Some stories take years to tell. This one took more than ten.
Over a decade ago, Happy Nzai joined our sponsorship program as a young student. He was capable and determined, and like so many children in the Kenya Kids program, what he needed was someone willing to invest in his education.

Happy during his high school years.
That investment came from Gretchen Bleffert and Candace Gibson, the sponsors who supported him through school. When he qualified for college, they stayed with him. With their help, he enrolled in a pharmacy program and went on to earn his Diploma in Pharmacy.
Anyone who has watched a student work through a technical program knows what those years require. Long hours of study. Demanding coursework. The quiet pressure of knowing that other people are counting on you to finish.

Happy after completing his Diploma in Pharmacy.
Today we are thrilled to share what came next. Happy has been permanently hired by the Kenyan government as a pharmacy professional at Mephi Hospital, a Level 4 facility. Permanent government positions are competitive and difficult to secure, and his role comes with a government pension. That means genuine long term stability, not only for him but for the family who depends on him.

Happy at work at Mephi Hospital.
This is what sponsorship makes possible. One child receives an opportunity, and the benefits keep spreading outward. A family gains steady income. A hospital gains a skilled professional. A community gains someone who grew up there and came back equipped to serve it.
Congratulations, Happy. Your hard work, perseverance, and dedication brought you here, and we could not be prouder. To everyone who invested in him along the way, thank you. This is what your support builds.
